Recap Of 2009 And Moving Ahead 2010

Time seems to fly by and one more year has past and we are moving into the year 2010 now. It seems like the year 2000 where there was the millennium bug was just yesterday and now its already a decade past that era.

2009 can be considered my 2nd year of my business and according to Robert Kiyosaki, he said that 95% of all business cannot live past the first 3 years of operation. One more year and i’ll be in the top 5% of all businesses. :)

The 2009 saw many ups and down for me in terms of my personal life as well as my online business. I’ll gonna recap the whole of 2009 starting from January all the way to Dec 2009 which is what i did for the recap of year 2008.

In terms of my personal life:

A lot of things happen during this year alone. All in all, this year is a bad year for my personal life. My beloved dad pass away in August and that alone is devastating enough to me and my family. It was a tough time to get by but i’m glad we are more or less stable down and carry on with our lives with our family bond getting stronger than before.

I almost broke up with my girlfriend because i neglected her due to my heavy workload from business as well as my family matters plus my mood was so low that i wasn’t interested in dating anymore. But i’m glad that we pulled through the tough times and our relationship got even stronger.

Went for several holidays this year with my girlfriend. Some of the holidays included Batam trip during Valentines Day, West Coast USA & PPC Classroom Live Las Vegas  in June 2009, Bintam short getaway in July, Phuket Thailand in September and Kelong Fishing in November and Hong Kong/Macau for Christmas 2009.

In terms of Business:

This year is considered my first full year of doing affiliate marketing online. Profit for the year is at a 6 figure level and i’m pretty proud to achieve that level with just 2 years of doing affiliate marketing online.

Saw some crazy shift in industry after the massive Google Slap/Ban and the FTC coming up with new rules and regulation regarding the promotion of certain products and services.

The infamous Google ban caused my income to drop by 90% for the month of August and September and i was earning only US$500 for both months. However, i am glad that i have successfully pulled my income back up to the 5 figure monthly income for the month of November and December.

I have started to venture and diversify my traffic sources to just paid traffic. I have ventured into SEO and free traffic strategies to diversify my income source as well as to build long term passive income from SEO.

I have set up my own company, Affiliatepedia Pte Ltd,  in July 2009 so that i can better focus on my business and to reap the tax benefit that a Pte Ltd company can have as well as to reduce my personal tax bracket which can amount to a pretty big sum of money to give to the government.

The picture to the left is my company logo and i am bent on building this company into a million dollar company as soon as possible.

I took over my dad small business of condo cleaning services and this income is to help supplement the household income for my mom so that she will not have to worry so much about money matters and bills to pay. This business is pretty much on autopilot since there is a system in place for the workers already. Dealing with humans is definitely not a easy task especially with cleaners who wants to quit at the slightest reason and not reporting for work is a real headache since the rubbish has to be cleared everyday.

Moving Ahead 2010

Moving ahead 2010 and setting new goals for myself for another breakthrough is definitely crucial. We all need to set our directions right from the start and align your actions towards your goal and inched forward towards your ultimate goal.

In 2010, i want to:

  1. Hit a monthly income of US$50,000 from my online business. I am aiming for US$10,000 from SEO traffic and US$40,000 from paid traffic. My highest in 2009 is only US$29,000+ so i still have a long way to go for the $50,000 target.
  2. Hit US$10,000 for the SEO project that i am currently working with Soo Chin so that she will be able to quit her day job and work full time on Affiliate Marketing with me.
  3. Involve Soo Chin and rent a office together so we can work hard together in our own office and decorate it as nicely as possible.
  4. Lose weight for sure! I have put on a lot of weight this year and my resolution in the year 2010 is to lose 10KG!! I intend to do this via regular regular exercising regime and making sure that i exercise at least 4 times a week. Must be DISCIPLINE to do this. My friend Alex Yeo could go swim or run everyday to keep fit and i’ll make sure i’ll model after him and do the same too!
  5. Purchase my own car (what model i am still undecided)
  6. Earning and Saving enough money to purchase my own house (aiming at CityLights at Lavender which cost SGD$950,000)
  7. Continue to work on my dad business and hopefully to get more contracts for the business and get more money for my family.
  8. Aiming to attend Affiliate Summit West 2011 in Jan.
  9. Praying that my family health and safety remains in tip top condition.
  10. Go for more holidays in the year 2010!

Are you one of the lucky ones that started making money with just one campaign? It seems like affiliate marketing isn’t a bed of roses. I started 2 campaigns and it flopped. Lost money. How long did you take to start making money?

Do you have any advice for budding affiliate marketers? What are the pitfalls to avoid. Can anyone succeed?
